History and present

Brief history

The structure dates to the 1600' and has had considerable renovation through the centuries and more recently the extension at the rear that accommodates the function room.

Throughout the centuries and according to The national newspaper Archives like many other ale houses, was the centre of operations as a auction house, court house, for- runner to the post office and for the sale of local produce.

We are 1.9 miles off the A3124 - at Dolton Beacon. see map bottom of home page.

Interest nearby are;

Halsdon nature Reserve with the river Torridge valley and the Tarka trail, ideal for walkers.

Woolley Animals Alpaca Walking & Farm park just down the road. (A3124).

About a 37 minute drive to Crediton then onwards to Exeter and south Devon.

About a 30/40 minute drive the Okehampton and the edge of Dartmoor.

About a 40 minute drive to Bideford, and seaside village of Westward Ho!

About a 40 min drive to Barnstaple around another 30 mins  to continue to Ilfracombe, Woolacombe and Combe Martin.
